Focus starts with the big picture

Focus starts with the big picture
How often do you say, “I just need to focus,” but you don’t know what to focus on, so you grab the first thing you think of or react to the next message that comes in. Try this instead:
Look at the big picture.
Do some visioning. Get clear on the impact you want to make. Be sure you take into consideration your business and all the other pieces of your life — work, relationships, health, personal development, hobbies, and all the other things that make up your life. We can’t set business goals in a vacuum.
Find your highest good.
Your skill set or the thing you are really good at, the thing that people need or the problem that only you can solve, your excitement level. Ask if you are making space for your highest good. Keep it in mind as you make decisions for the next 90 days.
Clear the deck.
Let’s face it … a lot of our day fills up with small tasks. Sometimes these are tiny steps of our projects, but often they are just the things that keep life running … scheduling appointments, paying bills, tax prep, planning dinner … When you schedule time regularly to clear the deck (not ALL your time, but say 90-minutes a week), you can turn your focus to the things that matter.
You need the big picture and you need the little obstacles out of the way. Revisit your vision. Make a 90-day plan. Then plan each week and make sure you schedule time for your most important work. Schedule clear the deck time to make sure little tasks don’t eat up all your time.
What impact are you going to make? What steps are you taking in the next 90 days to get there?
